The tongs has a gripper with outer and inner clamping jaws which are engaged at a coil (21) to grasp and/or clamp the jaws. A hydraulic main cylinder (1) which is loaded with pressure, is pressurized by mounting the tong at a lifting tool when the weight of the tongs and/or the coil is raised. The cylinder is connected with an operating cylinder (3) which is provided for the clamping jaws and is pressurized to clamp the coil. An independent claim is also included for a lifting tool having a coil tongs.
