Method for monitoring the operation of a medical system, especially a particle therapy installation, has the following steps: provision of a wireless data network with access to all the necessary parts of the installation, provision of a mobile unit for use by a user or service technician to access the network and implementation of at least a monitoring process using the network and mobile unit to control a programmable element. The invention also relates to a corresponding function monitoring unit for a medical large system.
