Apparatus for cleaning a magnetic separator (1), for removing magnetizable particle impurities (4b) from non-metallic particulate material (4), comprising a continuously moving endless conveyor belt support continuously supplied with the starting material and passing through a magnetic separation zone, consists of a suction unit (6) with at least one slit nozzle (9), located after the magnetic zone at a short distance from the support and transverse to the direction of motion and operatively connected to the separator : An independent claim is included for a method for reprocessing recycled quartz glass as starting material for production of sintered amorphous silica ceramic products, involves: (a) crushing the glass to the required particles size in milling apparatus; (b) applying the crushed product to a magnetic separator, provided with a cleaning device, as above; and (c) collecting the granular product, free of magnetizable metallic impurities, for further use.
