Production of double-face leno fabric, e.g. for floor covering, involves a dense weave with different tensions and thickness in base and twist warp

A fabric of leno or gauze construction has a dense weave comprising a thin base warp (1) and a thick twist warp (3). The warp tensions are controlled so that the twist warp yarns (3) cross the base warp yarns (1) in a plane parallel to the weft (2) yarns. The twist warp yarns (3) are placed above the base warp yarns (1) in the weave. The weft yarns (2) are sufficiently close to give a rigid structure and almost completely cover the virtually straight base warp yarns (1). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) The corresponding weaving process in which the tension in the twist warp is appreciably lower than in the base warp; (2) A loom to carry out the process including separate drives and tension control sensors for the two warp beams and sensors.
