The method determines the mechanical properties of the material by dynamically loading a sample of the material and measuring and recording values characterizing the load. These values are then further processed as data in a computer (7). Based on output data on the sample and/or its material stored in the computer, a stepwise approximation to the measured values or data is carried out using an automatic iterative calculating process run during or directly after the loading and which carries out a simulation. An independent claim is also included for apparatus for carrying out the method.
