The device has an operating pressure modification unit (22) and a parameter identification unit (23), which adjust a pressure detected by an internal pressure detection unit and/or a pressure estimated by an estimation unit during compression stroke of a combustion engine. A misfire determination unit (27) determines a combustion condition during the stroke based on a relation between the pressure adjusted by the units (22, 23). An independent claim is also included for a method of detecting a combustion condition of a combustion engine.
