The actuator has a cylindrical stator housing (7), which covers an outer peripheral section of an SMC-stator (6). The housing is recessed by a front end magnetic pole surface of the stator relative to a side opposite to an armature (5). The pole surface and a ring-shaped front end surface of the housing are not positioned on a surface area. The stator along with a solenoid coil and the armature forms a magnetic circuit. The solenoid coil has large diameter and increased number of turns. The stator housing is made of carbon steel. The armature moves to a side in an axial direction of the actuator when the solenoid coil is supplied with energy.
