The method is for the protection of hazardous areas (15) especially of sheet feeder and sheet deliverer areas of sheet-fed printing presses (19) in which the loads (13) conveyed to and from the press are contactlessly sensed by one or more sensors (30,31) and control signals produced which are evaluated according to predetermined criteria. With the occurrence of signals which suggest the entry of inadmissible objects or persons, an error signal is generated. The occurrence of not more than two signal jumps per sensor lying above a threshold serve as a criterion for the error-free feed and transporting away of loads. An independent claim is included for a device for the protection of hazardous areas, especially sheet feeder and sheet deliverer areas of sheet-fed printing presses, with a device for sensing of the loads and for generating control signals for evaluation.
