In a method for cleaning and/or dewatering a sheet of material (e.g. felt) for which data regarding the properties have been evaluated, the data are used for adjusting the dewatering device(s). An independent claim is included for corresponding apparatus, with cleaning device(s) and sensor(s) for evaluating the properties of the sheet, including a device for processing data regarding the sheet properties, where dewatering device of the cleaning apparatus is adjustable using data processing apparatus and/or the processed data.
