Injection molding method for manufacturing sliding contact seal involves roughening molding tool surface to produce seal areas with rough surface quality

Surfaces(31) of the tool cavity(30) corresponding to the seal contact areas are roughened by blasting particles at them to produce a specific degree of surface roughness. A seal(11) is then molded which has sealing lip faces(32,33) having the roughness caused by the tool surface. Contact surfaces of the seal have a surface roughness (Ra) of 1.5 microns. Independent claims are included for: (1) a seal for sliding contact produced by the claimed method; (2) a hydraulic component in which the sliding contact areas between a piston and an associated bore are sealed by a seal produced as claimed.
