Wet clay is continuously extruded from a die to make a rectangular-section strip (14) with three ribs (15) on its long sides and two ribs on its short sides. The ribs are of trapezoidal cross-section. Square rollers (23,23') with flattened corners (M) rotate and engage the sides of the extruded strip and flatten the ribs at regular intervals. The remaining sections of rib (9) have chamfered ends. The flattened sections between the sections of rib are cut through to make individual green bricks which may then be fired.
