The rack (2) is moved inside the guide tube (3) by a pinion (4). The stop rings (11,12) consist of C-shaped half rings with their ends dovetailed together. The half-rings are fastened to the rack by grub screws and bear against end disks (13,14) on the ends of the rack. The end disks are connected to the road wheels (7,8) by inner (5,6) and outer (9,10) links hinged together. When the steering gear (1) reaches the end of its travel, the stop rings engage with one or other end surfaces (15,18) of the guide tube.
