The reader has a housing that accommodates a driver unit, connection unit (14) and an antenna unit (12). The housing is designed as a flat, traversable block and comprises a recess at a top side for the antenna unit. The recess is adapted to a contour of the antenna unit. A supporting surface is formed outside of the recess, where a traversable cover that is made of plastic rests upon the supporting surface.
