The device has a vertical storage e.g. paternoster storage, which includes two buffers (8, 9) for receiving filled food trays. The paternoster storage is provided at an end of a conveyor belt (4). The paternoster storage lifts-off the trays directly from the conveyor belt via lateral openings. The trays stored in the storage (1) are simultaneously introduced into a heating unit or a tray-transporting carrier (7).
