The drive unit has steering and traction motors (2, 10) coaxially arranged to each other, where each motor includes a stator and a rotor. A drive shaft of the traction motor projects via a hollow drive shaft (5) of the steering motor. The traction motor has a hollow rotor forming a hollow space for partially arranged the components of the steering motor, such that the parts of the motors overlap in an axial direction.
