A broadcast message indicating media independent handover (MIH) services and MIH modes supported by a wireless network, is transmitted to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) in response to a request from the WTRU. The network handover is executed in the WTRU, based on the message. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) wireless communication system; and (2) multi-mode wireless transmit/receive unit.
