A plate shaped protective unit (11), which can be transparent, is placed in front of the bar and is fixed on the body. The unit (11), during utilization, is located in front of the blade (6) of a knife (5) or useful part (9) of a kitchen utensil (8) e.g. fork, retained against the bar.
