The machine, equipped with at least one mould (2) in two opening halves (2a, 2b) forming a moulding cavity with an orifice (4) between upper thrust surfaces (5a, 5b) to support a collar (6) on a preform neck (7), has positioners (11a, 11b) on the two thrust surfaces that interact with a projection (12) on the preform neck to align the preform accurately as the mould halves close. The positioners have stops (14a, 14b) that project above the thrust surfaces and close to leave a gap between them for the preform neck projection.
