The system has a telemonitoring station (24) to transmit an anomaly detection signal on a local area network, and surveillance terminals (52) connected to the network. The terminals are adapted to warn the residents in response to the transmission of the signal, for drawing their attention on telemonitoring images, filmed at the residents by cameras (38, 40), transmitted towards displays (50) placed in each dwelling. An independent claim is also included for a method for video surveillance of residents of a one-family dwelling or multi-storey dwelling.
