The method involves projecting a part of a stele (200) or an additional decorative unit (300) having a shape of a medallion, by removal of material on the decorative unit to create a horizontal plane surface (321) for the decorative unit being opposed to the weight of the decorative unit. The horizontal plane surface cooperates with a horizontal plane surface (220) of the stele. An independent claim is also included for a decorative unit implementing a method of fixing a decorative unit on a vertical surface of a stele.
