PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quantitatively evaluating the properties of excavated earth and sand in the chamber of an earth pressure type shield machine and selecting an additive optimum to excavation on the basis of the evaluation result.;SOLUTION: A measuring instrument 3 includes a container 7 for housing excavated earth and sand 1, the cylinder 9 of a rod-shaped interpenetration means capable of being inserted in and drawn out of the excavated earth and sand 1 in the container, the jack 11 of a control means for controlling the moving distance and insertion and drawing-out speed of the cylinder 9 and the displacement meter 13 and load meter 15 of a measuring means for measuring the moving distance of the cylinder 9 and the load required in the insertion and drawing-out of the cylinder 9. The relation between the moving distance of the cylinder 9 and the load required in the insertion and drawing-out of the cylinder 9 is measured by the measuring instrument 3 and, on the basis of this relation, the flowability, strength, viscosity and elasticity of the excavated earth and sand are led out. The properties of the excavated earth and sand are evaluated at every physical property on the basis of the respective physical property values.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
