PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a client and a server for enabling a user to selectively reproduce content without selecting any server or external media in which content is stored and their programs in a client/server system. PSOLUTION: This server extracts content information matched with media identification information included in client information received from a client from a global list of a server, and transmits a content list including the content information of the extracted content and content stored in the server to the client. When an external media is inserted, the client generates media identification information from the external media, and transmits client specification information including the media identification information to the server.
