PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a butt joint by which the failure that a root remaining part is left in the rear face of a butt joint, and further, the failure that a recessed part such as an undercut part is formed on the rear face of the butt joint.;SOLUTION: Two pieces of joining members 1 and 2 having mutually different thicknesses are arranged so as to be butted in an aspect in which respective rear faces are connected in flush surface. The butted part 3 of both the joining members 1 and 2 is subjected to friction stirring joining along the butted part 3 by a rotating accessory probe 62 of an accessory joining tool 60, buried from the rear face side in the butted part 3. Next, the butted part 3' joined by the accessory probe 62 in both the joining members 1 and 2 is subjected to friction stirring joining along the butted part 3' by the rotating main probe 52 of the main joining tool 50, buried from the surface side in the butted part 3'.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
