PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot-rolled wire rod for a high carbon steel wire capable of wire drawing without subjecting a rolling stock to a patenting treatment, furthermore having a high strength, also exhibiting an excellent longitudinal crack resistance and wire drawability and moreover capable of preventing the unevenness of the sticking of a phosphate film at need. ;SOLUTION: This wire rod has a compsn. contg. 0.7 to 1.2% C, 0.05 to 2.0% Si, 0.2 to 2.0% Mn and 0.003 to 0.015% N, furthermore contg. 0.01 to 0.05% Al and/or 0.01 to O.05% Nb, in which Al, Nb and N also satisfy [Al]+[Nb]/[N]≥4 (where [Al], [Nb] and [N] respectively denote the contents (mass %) of Al, Nb and N), and, moreover, in the above N, the amt. of solid solution N is ≤0.001%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
