A simple and efficient process for the synthesis of an ACE inhibitor

A process for preparing of trandolapril comprising the steps of reacting sub-molar proportion of N- [1-(S)-ethoxy carbonyl-3- phenyl propyl ]-L-alanine N- carboxyanhydride with trans-octahyrdro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid and optionally with (2S,3aR,7aS) octahydro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid, in the presence of organic base in non - polar organic solvent is disclosed. The present invention also discloses a process for resolution of racemic trans octahydro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid.
