Adsorption process by cyclic temperature change, for the removal of contaminants from a gas stream, said process comprising a repetitive cycle of steps that include: (i) contacting the gas stream with a selective adsorbent for the retention of a pollutant for the purpose of adsorbing at least a part of the pollutant of the gas stream, so that this stage (i) is carried out at an initial temperature; (ii) heating the adsorbent to a first regeneration temperature for the purpose of resorbing at least a part of the contaminant adsorbed in step (i); and (iii) cooling the adsorbent to the initial temperature before starting a new cycle; the improvement comprising a period of periodic heating intended to correspond to the frequency of water penetration incidents, in which the adsorbent is periodically heated to a second regeneration temperature greater than the first regeneration temperature.
