TERRAPONICS/DIRTPONICS CONTAINER-BASED PLANT HUSBANDRY APPARATUS AND CONTROLLED HORTICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT FOR USING SAME

A container-based plant husbandry apparatus and ahorticultural environment designed to optimize growth ofplants therein. A liquid-tight container is filled to afirst, predetermined height with a first media that, whileproviding support to an upper layer, is substantially liquidsaturated. A second layer of growing media is physicallyplaced upon and supported by the first media. Consequently, awet zone and a dry zone are defined and established. The wetzone never encroaches the dry zone. An irrigation system addswater and/or nutrients. A controlled horticulturalenvironment specifically designed for use with the containersis provided. The environment optimizes all environmentalfactors such as temperature, humidity, and light cycles in acontrolled, sterile environment where pests, molds, fungus,and other hindrances to maximal plant growth may beeffectively controlled if not eliminated.
