The invention relates to a self-expanding cannula (1), in particular a self-expanding cardiac cannula, providing a conduit through a skin (3) between aninside of a corpus (2) and an outside of the corpus (2). Said self-expandingcannula (1) includes a body (100) encompassing a lumen (110) extendingessentially axially along a center-line (120), and has a distal-end (130) tobepositioned outside of the corpus (2) for attachment to an extracorporeal fluidhandling system (4), in particular to a blood handling system (4) comprising ablood pump, and having a proximal-end (140) to be positioned inside of thecorpus (2), for attachment to an organ of an human or an animal, in particularfor attachment to a wall (9) of a heart or to the wall (9) of an associatedvessel. The body (100) of the self-expanding cannula (1) is constructed from abraided-wire (150), so that the self-expanding cannula (1) is capable ofexpanding from a closed diameter (D1) to an opened diameter (D2).Theinvention is also related to a catheter-sheath (8) and a catheter-sheath-assembly (800) as well as to a method for applying and positioning a self-expanding cannula (1), and a catheter-sheath-assembly (800) in accordancewith the present invention.
