An apparatus for providing application services in a WiBro(Wireless Broadband Internet) network, a method for accessing a WiBro portal service, and a method for initiating an application service between WiBro terminals are provided to enable users to access WiBro services more easily by providing a WiBro messenger for a WiBro portal service and to increase the convenience of users by conveniently providing menus and search environments for WiBro services. An apparatus for providing an application service in a WiBro network comprises a common platform(310), a menu configuration part(320), a real-time information provisioning part(330), a searching part(340), and a push part(350). The common platform(310), connecting to the WiBro network, receives information containing presence/location information and user information and provides it. The common platform(310) transfers a request, made by the user, to the WiBro network so that the request can be delivered to a corresponding point, and receives a response to the request. The menu configuration part(320) expresses services, subscribed by the user, in the form of icons, and provides a service corresponding to a selected icon. The real-time information provisioning part(330) provides a friend list function, including an addition/deletion function for friends, through the WiBro network. The searching part(340) provides a searched result for the contents based on the user's input. The push part(350) provides various information, including real-time life information, new services, local information, advertisement, etc., through a push-type service. Also the push part(350) provides a service corresponding to the present location of the user by using the presence/location information.
