A lift installation with a linear drive system and a linear drive system for the same are provided to require a small space in a lift passage by providing the lift installation with a linear motor drive system, thereby preventing the tipping of a lift compartment. A lift installation includes a lift compartment(24). A permanent magnet linear drive system includes a fixed member(20) and a movable member moved along the fixed member during a drive control of the permanent linear drive system. The lift compartment is disposed in a rucksack configuration. The fixed member includes at least two inclined mutual operation surfaces having 0 to 180 degrees. The movable member is disposed on the rear side of the lift compartment so as to be mechanically convex with the lift compartment. Two units(21) are moved along sides of the mutual operation surfaces.
