A cut section(4) of decorative film is placed in a tool cavity so that part of it covers the parting line(A) between the tool parts. Plastic is injected onto the rear of the film whose edges(5) extend into the rear area of the plastic backing thus eliminating a visible line at the tool parting plane. A preformed C-shaped cross-section of film(4) covers a long flat area of the decorative strip(3). An independent claim is included for an internal component(1) for a motor vehicle, in particular a long, ornamental or decorative strip or rail produced by the claimed process.
