The commutator (100) has a cylinder shaped base body with an axial opening for receiving a shaft. The shaft holds a hollow cylinder shaped carrier made of electrical conducting material. The carrier has a hook (13) for receiving connecting wires of rotor windings at an axial end along circumference. The carrier and the contact unit are divided into several segments (17) by slots. An electrical conducting additional material is found on a surface in a segment, where the surface is as large as a surface of contact units (20) in the segment. An independent claim is also included for an electrical machine comprising a carbon commutator.
