The drive has a continuous traction unit that is designed as toothed belt (120) and running on belt pulleys (115, 130, 140, 150) that are designed as a toothed wheel. A thermal scanning device (170) determines the warming of the traction unit. The scanning device has a temperature sensor (171), which is arranged adjacent to the device for determining the temperature of the traction unit, and a signal processing device (200), in which an output signal of the sensor is evaluated. An independent claim is also included for a method of determining wear of a traction unit of a traction unit drive.
