The method involves determining wear-out conditions over a circumference of a slide coating (10) at a hinge bearing independent of its installation position, and equipping the bearing. The equipped bearing is rotated until a section of the slide coating is in a provided load region, where the section of the slide coating lies over a defined wear range. The bearing is reassembled in the rotated condition, where the bearing exhibits an outer ring arrangement and an inner ring arrangement. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for extension of service life of a hinge bearing.
