A giving or receiving cylinder for hydraulic brake or coupling units as in a motor vehicle comprises a piston (9) movable in a cylindrical housing (2) with a piston rod (11) extending from the housing through a hole (10). A locking unit (12) holds the piston in a delivery position until at least one desired break point, that is at a connecting point between the cylinder housing and locking unit, breaks. Independent claims are also included for three further cylinder arrangements as above.
