The lap counter has two side posts (3) with at least one counting mechanism (4,4) detachably fixed between same. The posts make up a gantry over the race track. The counting mechanism can be an optical or electronic counter. Each lane has an indicator (6) associated with each counter. Rechargeable batteries can be used for the counters.
