A monitoring/control device monitors triggering of a first airbag, and, just after a delay, releases a second airbag as necessary. The delay amounts to preferably between 0.01 and 2 seconds. A first airbag system has a first gas bag. A second airbag system also has a first gas bag. The first and second airbag systems each have an inflating device to inflate the first gas bag.
