The head of the hoe includes a hollow cylindrical impact chamber (3) containing a sliding hammer-weight. This moves freely in the chamber, which is located close to the tool heads (4, 5). The chamber is permanently fixed to the shaft (1). The weight is a solid, a loose material or a fluid. Various tools may be attached permanently to the handle, e.g. a spade, fork or rake. The hammer-weight enhances impact, whilst the return-kick or shock transmitted back to the hand, is damped.
