The device has a movable arm (7) directly or indirectly connected with a base. The arm supports a measuring-or marking tool (8) e.g. scanner or optical sensor, and is provided with a swivel-joint (1). The position of the measuring-or marking tool is guided by a measuring unit of the swivel-joint to a computer for determining and/or detecting and/or storing value measured by the tool, where the computer exhibits a corresponding computer program. The swivel-joint is assigned to a drive (2) that is designed in a couplable and decouplable manner, where the drive is driven by a motor.
