PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resonator whose Q value is raised in a two-dimensional photonic crystal and to provide a wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer in which such resonators and waveguides are combined and which has high wavelength resolution.;SOLUTION: A resonator consisting of point defects existing in a two-dimensional photonic crystal is characterized by that the normal part of the two-dimensional photonic crystal is constituted by arranging low refractive index material (2) which has a refractive index smaller than that of plate material (1) and also has a prescribed identical dimensional shape in two-dimensional lattice points set in the plate material (1) and a point defect (4) includes a plurality of lattice points of three or more which are adjacent with each other and the low refractive index material (2) is not arranged in these lattice points and the size of the refractive index material (2) which is to be arranged corresponding to at least one of nearest lattice points is changed from the prescribed size.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
