A mechanism for controlling the opening and closing of the sliding leaf 1 of a door operating in manual or automatic mode, comprises a flexible and smooth transmission rope 5 shaped according to a closed loop after winding on a smooth drive pulley driven directly into rotation by a DC motor with variable speed and reversing direction of rotation. The rope 5 is made of a plastic material having a coefficient of adhesion and elasticity able to ensure either the driving of the leaf 1 in normal operation between the closed and open positions, or the slippage of the rope 5 on the drive pulley in the event of a blockage or a reverse manual push in the direction of advance. Applications: control of light doors for the interior.
