The device has a primary filter (24) placed in the upstream of a compressor (12) of an air-conditioning circuit and having a filtering medium (28) with a retaining surface (30). The medium has openings with a size of about 10 micrometer to retain particles conveyed by a refrigerant of the circuit, where the particle size is greater than the size of the openings. A safety valve (36) passes the refrigerant when the retaining surface is clogged by the particles which it retains. A secondary filter (26) with openings having a size of about 30 micrometer operates when the filter (24) clogs. An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning an air-conditioning circuit traversed by a refrigerant and including a refrigerant filtration device.
