- Method for evaluating the acidity of petroleum samples in small quantities, applicable at any stage of the petroleum industry.- It includes an isotope labeling of a chemical element present in at least one acidic function present in petroleum samples. The isotopic enrichment of the samples is then determined by isotopic mass spectrometry (IRMS). The acidity of the samples is deduced. This method is an alternative to measuring the Total Acid Number (TAN). In particular, it represents the only possibility of reliable measurement of acidity on petroleum samples available in small quantities .- Applications to the economic evaluation of a hydrocarbon production field.- Applications to the determination of the range of carbon responsible for the acidity of a crude oil.- Applications to follow the evolution of the acid distribution of a site polluted by hydrocarbons.
