The column has an upper shaft (2) carrying a steering wheel (4) at one of its ends, and an intermediate shaft (5) whose upper end is connected to the upper shaft by a cardan joint (6). A lower shaft (7) has an end connected to a lower end of the intermediate shaft by another cardan joint (10). Another intermediate shaft (11) is interposed between the upper shaft and the intermediate shaft (5) by connecting its upper end to the other end of the shaft (2) by a third cardan joint (12) and lower end to the upper end of the shaft (5) by the joint (6).
