Attenuation of coherent noise in seismic data prior to correlation with vibrator sweep signal

A method of attenuating coherent noise in seismic data acquired using a swept frequency vibrator (vibroseis RTM) comprises attenuating the noise 512 prior to correlating 515 the data with the sweep pilot signal 503. A dynamic coherent noise filter is constructed by identifying the onset of the coherent noise, the extent of the coherent noise, the spatial extent of the coherent noise and the coherent noise wavelet. The method is particularly useful for reducing wind noise 509, but also for noise from machine operation, pipeline flow and flare burn-off.
