LACTOBACILLUS EXPECTABLE TO HAVE IMMUNOMODULATING ACTION AND EXTRACELLULAR POLYSACCHARIDE

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lactobacillus strain expectable to have immunomodulating action by oral administration to human and animal, and to provide an extracellular polysaccharide. PSOLUTION: A new Lactobacillus fermentum TDS030603 strain is provided which produces a polysaccharide composed of a major component containing a tetrasaccharide comprising a 3-substituted glucose, a 6-substituted galactose, a 2,3-substituted glucose and nonreducing terminal glucose as a repeating unit and a minor component containing a tetrasaccharide comprising a 3-substituted glucose, a 6-substituted galactose, a 2,3-substituted glucose and nonreducing terminal galactose as a repeating unit, an extracellular polysaccharide produced by the lactobacillus, new Lactobacillus helveticus TDS030903 strain expectable to have immunomodulating action, and a food, an immunomodulating agent and a physical property improving agent containing the lactobacillus or polysaccharide are provided.
