PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire spread preventing method which can be used even in facilities of low power supply capability or waste water treatment capability regardless of the quality of water supply and is effective in the initial period of an oil leakage fire, and a fire spread preventing implement used in the method.;SOLUTION: The fire spread preventing implement includes a water-resistant and freely deformable long-length cylindrical body (1) formed of a heat-resistant cloth-like object. In the fire spread preventing method, after arranging the cylindrical body on a ground surface, water is filled in the cylindrical body (1) to turn it to an expanded state, and a disaster prevention object area (4) and a disaster occurrence area (5) are sectioned. The disaster prevention area and the disaster occurrence area are sectioned, a guiding area (7) continued to the disaster occurrence area is formed, and firing leakage oil (3) may be guided from the disaster occurrence area to the guiding area.
