PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure and compensate the PMD of an optical signal of OTDM.;SOLUTION: A PMD compensation device 12 compensates the PMD of input signal light 10 according to a PMD monitor signal from a monitoring signal generation circuit 28. A branching device 22 divides the output light of the device 12 into two, makes one as output signal light 24, and supplies the other to a down converter 26. The down converter 26 down-converts the output light of the device 12 into an optical signal with a low frequency. The monitoring signal generation circuit 28 measures a signal-to-noise ratio of the output signal light of the down converter 26, and applies the measured result to a control circuit 20 of the device 12 as the PMD monitor signal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
