PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve accurate evaluation for reproduction without using not only a bit pattern for which has a minimum SAM ideal value.;SOLUTION: A Viterbi decoding circuit 7 performs Viterbi decoding on the basis of a reproduced signal obtained by reading an optical disk. A decoded bit sequence is fed to a first specific pattern detection circuit 8 and a first reverse pattern detection circuit 9, a path metric difference M is fed to a reproduced signal evaluation circuit 10.
