PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for noncontactly measuring a flow rate of a molten metal with less influence of level fluctuations of a molten metal on measuring accuracy realizing miniaturization of a device and capable of measuring level fluctuations within a mold simultaneously.;SOLUTION: The technique for noncontactly measuring a flow rate of a molten metal comprises a process for applying a high-frequency magnetic field to the surface of the molten metal to generate ripples thereon, a process for measuring the level fluctuations of the molten metal caused by the ripples on a plurality of locations including both the upstream side and the downstream side of the generation location of the ripples, and a process for calculating a flow rate of the molten metal based on the condition of propagation of the level fluctuations on each location on which the flow rate of the molten metal is reflected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
